Interview: Kim Zentner of KZ Shoes

THIS IS an extract of an interview with Kim Zentner from KZ Shoes.

DW: Please tell us about yourself. Have you always enjoyed making things?

KZ: My name is Kim Zentner and I was born on a farm in a small town called Langenburg, Saskatchewan in Canada. I am one of nine children, six girls and three boys. I was four years old when we moved to Ottawa in the 60’s, so I did most of my growing up there. I moved to Toronto in the early 80’s and spent 13 years living and working there till I returned to Ottawa in the late 90’s where I presently reside.

All through my life I have been a crafts person and have tried my hand a many things.
I worked with Lewiscraft and Michaels Arts and Crafts where I was exposed to a multitude of resources to stimulate my creativity. My mother taught me to sew when I was young and I found I loved working with leather, making clothing, leather-covered boxes, dream catchers and purses. In high school I wanted to be a potter and loved working with clay. Some of my other hobbies are stained glass, working with wood, pottery, gardening, reading and jewelry making.
